What to Wear in Hot Weather | In Style | 06.07.15

2015-07-08_1315It’s typically British, isn’t it, to grumble our way through winter only to complain when the sun finally comes out that we’re overdressed and overheating. To help you work out what to wear in hot weather, I’ve compiled a tight edit of the five high street pieces to help you keep chic and cool.

1) The Breezy Dress

When the temperature hits the late twenties I just want to float about in a beautifully bright summer dress that doesn’t cinch in anywhere on my body. This pleated dress from & Other Stories is a heatwave hero: it’s the perfectly appropriate length for work or play in a flattering v-neck cut and ultra-light fabric.

2) The Long Cotton Tunic

There is an effortlessly chic Out Of Africa cool to an all-white cotton tunic. This nearly-sheer design from Zara will work layered over cropped tailored trousers and block heeled sandals and the airy side split will keep you cool.

3) The Printed Jumpsuit

Look for a design that fits your waist (to stop you looking too boxy) and a deep V neck to flatter your bust. The Whistles Pari Print Jumpsuit ticks every box with its cropped flared culottes, a cut-out detail on the back and super-cool linen.

4) The Bardot Off-The-Shoulder Top

The Bardot top is the trend piece of the season. It’s summery, feminine and flattering, covering your upper arms while elegantly framing the shoulders and décolletage. Close-fit designs work perfectly with wide-leg culottes and midi skirts but you can also style a more relaxed fit like River Island’s stripe top with seventies denim or skinny jeans.

5) The Go-With-Everything Espadrilles

Espadrilles are not a new idea for summer, but they are so often sidelined by the trend sandal of the moment. You can wear Castaner’s classic black and oatmeal espadrilles with everything from dungarees (a la Chung) to Bardot dresses and midi skirts.
