Recording a voiceover is tricky.
I was in the recording studio yesterday working on my album finishing my voiceover showreel, where I put my voice to different brands/adverts/storylines/contexts to see where it works best.
Voiceover is a totally different game from presenting, an entirely different skill set (obvious maybe, but I had no idea.) The tone, intonation, stressing different words and emphasising pauses all make a huge difference to the effect of your voice.
Since working on voiceovers, I have made it my TV watching hobby to recognise the voice behind the adverts, Bill Nighy as the blue headed alien in the Argos ad, Matthew Macfadyen (aka Mr Darcy) for Marks and Spencers, oh and I love Stephen Merchant on the Barclays ad.
