How to Style a Midi Dress – plus video!

Why is it that our summer wardrobes are often more feminine than our autumn? Why should our long, floaty, feminine dresses be worn exclusively on hot days and holidays? In a moment of boredom when I was raiding my wardrobe thinking I had nothing to wear, I rediscovered this pretty dress and realised it has been months since I wore it; why can’t I wear it now, even though it’s November cold? In general, I’m more of a trouser wearer really but there’s something cool and cosy about updating a summery dress with autumn basics; it is all about layering it with knits, tailored jackets and classic pea coats. No matter how fine and light a dress may be, there are ways to make it work on a cold day. In this weeks How to Style the Midi  Dress video I wanted to style it for different occasions that may demand a very different shoe, so you’ll see Converse, patent Camilla Elphick ‘Zip Me Up’ ankle boots and my beloved vintage Atalanta Weller knee-highs. All of the aforementioned shoes work with a midi to long dress, however, the real hero is the knee-high boot, there’s just something romantic and elegant about layers of fabric swooshing over a boot.
