It’s here, it’s December and ‘the most wonderful time of the year;’ the season of Prosecco, pigs in blankets and so many parties. When I think of Christmas parties I think of the fashion: shimmering metallics, jewel colours, velvet, chandelier earrings and sequins; sequins across everything from heels to trousers, clutch bags and tuxedos. I’ve had a sequin jacket of some style hanging in my wardrobe for the past ten years; they’re glamorous whilst maintaining a bit of rock ‘n’ roll cool and they’re definitely not just for Christmas. If in doubt over what to wear for a party ‘oh f**k my dress is still at the dry cleaners‘ – my go-to is often something along the lines of a tailored tuxedo, something sharp, not too girlie and ideally an outfit that makes me feel sassy and confident. Sequins do that to me. Yes, to many sequins remind them of Elton John and Cilla Black (NB: which is no bad thing) but I don’t think they have to be camp and garish, there’s a reason brands from Saint Laurent to Gucci and Isabel Marant keep sending them down the catwalk; they make people feel good.
For this week’s How to Style video I put together three different looks with a gunmetal blue sequin jacket: layered with flares, knitwear and a blazer, with a hoodie, jeans and glitter heels and over a polka dot dress with bright heels.
