Shearling, when did I first realise how much I loved the reassuringly big, cosy-soft, Michelin Man-styling of shearling? I know the exact moment actually – I was visiting my Granny in Scotland (the charity shops are the best in OAP areas!) – and found a proper Del Boy coat, you know, shearling-lined leather with wicker buttons. Fast-forward to this teddybear coat from Monki that was a 30th birthday present from my friend Harriet. I love texture and think pic ‘n’ mix’ing different textures and fabrics makes an outfit look expensive: think cashmere on vinyl, tweed with silk, mohair against leather. Throw in different proportions and lengths and you’re there.
The January weather has taken a turn for the worst meaning my weather chat has gone from ‘wow, its dropped hasn’t it?!’ to ‘f**k, it’s thunder-snowing later today!’ I know, its a bit rude to post this coat and sing its praises, but I wanted to share some shearling love and point you in different budget directions whilst the sales are now in their final reductions from splash out, payday splurge and then the re-mortage-the-house coat that I can only dream of!
My style inspiration comes from so many different sources: stylish friends, magazines, fashion bloggers of course and streetstyle, speaking of which below are some faves.
