Hoxton Culture 30.08.16 feat. Zoey Goto, author of ‘Elvis Style’

This week’s Hoxton Culture really felt like a back-to-school show with September being round the corner and the August bank holiday being a drunken/ hungover memory. Much like fashion magazines which print their September issue full of new trends and ideas, this time of the year means a closing and opening of exhibitions and shows across London’s theatre’s and galleries.

In today’s show I talk vintage Disney, the final days of ‘Exhibitionism: The Rolling Stones,’ Brian Eno and Oliver Peyton talking at Futurefest, Nelson Mandela’s story via music and Bjork’s Somerset House virtual takeover. Plus, we are joined in the studio by Zoey Goto; fashion writer, Elvis aficionado and author behind ‘Elvis Style: From Zoot Suits to Jumpsuits’ and she tells us how her relationship with Elvis began (not romantically – obviously!) her visit to Graceland and a surreal lunch with Rev. Al Green.

Zoey Goto’s ‘Elvis Style: From Zoot Suit to Jumpsuits is available at both Waterstones and Amazon.

Inspired; vintage Sunday’s at Hackney Picturehouse, showing Disney classics from The Jungle Book to Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast.

I can’t believe I haven’t been myself yet! Closing this Sunday 4th September, hurry to see how rock ‘n’ roll the Rolling Stones were at the Saatchi Gallery’s ‘Exhibitionism.’

‘Experience the future in a mind-blowing weekend of talks and immersive experiences’ is how they describe this event where both Brian Eno and Oliver Peyton (of delicious Peyton and Byrne fame) will be talking.

Only on for a few more days, Southbank Centre’s ‘Mandela Trilogy’ tells the legendary story of Nelson Mandela through different styles of music from tribal to jazz to swing dance.

Somerset House opens ‘Bjork Digital’ on Wednesday 1st September; an immersive exhibition where you are invited to engage with Bjork’s work through virtual reality – basically – it is a must-see!
