I mean, to be honest, it’s a cheap post because stripes never go out of fashion and I really mean that; they’re a perennial trend that always work in some stripe or another. Do you love to stripe? Are you, like me, something of a striped hoarder? I have a stripe in every thickness, colour and fabric across shirts, blouses, jackets, trousers and of course knits. There’s something safe yet stylish about a stripe, probably because of their style history having been seen on every style icon from Coco Chanel in a classic Breton to Alexa Chung in multi-coloured cashmere and streetstyle stars and fashion insiders clashing stripes-on-stripes, see below. Perhaps not for everyone but I love to clash and mix stripes because it looks instantly chic, expensive and designer; in my opinion anyway. Much like wearing florals with florals you just have to be careful with the shape and fabric of the striped garments, see Olivia Palermo below who has kept it both soft and tailored without losing her small frame. A tailored trousers with a soft knit will work, a pencil skirt with a cropped jumper or striped jeans with a classic cotton shirt.
However, if this sounds like nonsense and makes you want to skip stripes altogether why not ease your way into bold stripes by mixing them with your wardrobe basics; I’ve picked some of the best below.

WEAR: pyjamas are not only for bedtime especially when they are this slinky and chic; wear with a blazer and Stan Smiths.

WEAR: this card’i would look fantastic with a pair of cropped denim and glossy ankle boots; stripes are classic Paul Smith.

WEAR: there’s something both military and tracksuit bottom about these tailored trousers and I love them for it; style with a crisp white cotton shirt or brave it and wear with a multi-coloured knit.

WEAR: cosy and classic, Arket is my new favourite place to find trousers, knits and outerwear; wear this with tailored leather trousers (Joseph are expensive but an investment!)

WEAR: the classic Oxford shirt that will work with everything from Levis 501s to tuxedo trousers and wide-leg tailored trousers; you will get so much wear out of this!
